About R513A Refrigerant Gas
R513A (Opteon® XP10) is a low Global Warming Potential (GWP) HFO refrigerant blend used as a replacement for R134a in medium and high temperature refrigeration applications. It is suitable for new systems as well as for retrofit of existing systems.
With a GWP of 631, R513A offers a 56% reduction compared to R134a. It has comparable physical and thermodynamic properties, performance closely matching that of R134a, and is classified as non-flammable with a safety classification of A1.
R513A is an azeotropic refrigerant blend containing R1234yf and R134a. The refrigerant must be charged from the liquid phase to ensure accurate composition. Compressors must be charged with polyolester oil, and users should contact the compressor manufacturer for more information. R513A can be used both as a retrofit and in new installations.

R513A systems typically use POE oil (polyolester oil). Always check the compressor manufacturer’s recommendation for the correct lubricant grade, viscosity, and additives before retrofitting or refilling.
Can an R513A system simply be topped up, or is a complete refrigerant replacement necessary?
If the system has only lost a small amount of refrigerant, a qualified technician may assess whether topping up is possible. In the case of leaks, contamination, or a fully empty system, leak detection, evacuation, and a complete recharge are recommended. R513A should always be charged in the liquid phase.
