What is R404A refrigerant?

Is R404A allowed in Europe?

Yes, but R404A is a high-GWP HFC refrigerant and is subject to strict EU F-Gas controls under Regulation (EU) 2024/573. Can R404A be used instead of another refrigerant in any system?

If the refrigerant loss is minor and the system condition is good, topping up may be possible in accordance with the manufacturer’s service procedure. If the system has suffered a major leak, has been empty, or may contain moisture, air, or contamination, leak repair, evacuation, and a full recharge to the exact specified amount are generally the safer professional approach.
