R134a Refrigerant Gas

R134a refrigerant gas (Freon 134a) in stock – ships same day across Europe. Professional-grade 12 kg cylinders with 99.9% HFC-134a purity. or automotive air conditioning (A/C), HVAC contractors, and refrigeration service companies. Volume pricing available for bulk orders.

About R134a Refrigerant Gas

R134a (HFC-134a, 1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane) has been the global standard for automotive air conditioning and commercial refrigeration since 1994, when it replaced R-12 (CFC-12) following the Montreal Protocol. With a GWP of 1430 and zero ozone depletion potential (ODP = 0), R134a offers a balance between performance and environmental responsibility.

Despite newer refrigerants being mandated for vehicles manufactured after 2017, R134a remains essential for servicing millions of pre-2017 cars, commercial cooling equipment, and HVAC systems across Europe. The refrigerant continues to be widely available and cost-effective for professional workshops, making it the practical choice for maintaining existing installations.

Frequently Asked Questions about R134a Refrigerant Gas

Yes. R134a is allowed in the EU for servicing and refilling existing systems. Under EU Regulation 2024/573 (F-Gas), R134a is permitted for:

  • Cars first registered up to 2017
  • Existing refrigeration equipment and HVAC systems
  • Repair and maintenance work

Important: R134a is prohibited in new cars from 2017 onward. These vehicles must use R1234yf. A valid refrigerant handling competence certificate is required to purchase R134a in accordance with EU regulations.

R134a (HFC-134a, 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane) is a non-flammable refrigerant with a GWP value of 1430 and ODP = 0. It was introduced in 1994 as a replacement for ozone-depleting R-12 (CFC-12) and remains the standard for car air conditioning systems manufactured up to 2017, as well as for commercial refrigeration equipment.

No, this must be done by a specialist! The system must be checked to avoid leaks. Small recharge kits may be used personally for refilling car air conditioners.

Most car air conditioning systems (manufactured up to 2017) require 600-800 g (0.6-0.8 kg) of R134a for a full refill. Larger vehicles (SUVs, vans) may require up to 1200 g.

Check the exact amount here:

  • The label under the hood (often on the radiator support or fan shroud)
  • The vehicle owner’s manual
  • The manufacturer’s specification

One 12 kg cylinder is enough for approximately 15–20 car air conditioner refills.

R134a requires PAG oil (polyalkylene glycol) or POE oil (polyol ester). Mineral oil is not compatible.

Important when converting from R-12 to R134a:

  • Completely remove the old mineral oil
  • Flush the system
  • Add new PAG or POE oil

PAG viscosity grades: PAG 46, PAG 100, PAG 150 (depending on compressor type)

If the system is still operating and has only lost a small amount of refrigerant, it can be topped up. In the case of a significant leak or an empty system, a complete recharge is required.

Steps before refilling:

  • Leak detection – find and fix leaks
  • Vacuuming – evacuate the system with a vacuum pump (minimum 30 minutes)
  • Precise charging – follow the manufacturer’s requirements (do not overfill!)

We offer R134a in 12 kg cylinders. This is the standard size for commercial use in Europe.

Advantages of a 12 kg cylinder:

  • Enough for 15-20 car air conditioner refills
  • Volume discounts from 5 cylinders (savings of up to 18%)
  • Optimal price-to-performance ratio for workshops

Our R134a prices (12 kg):

  • 1 cylinder: €374.00 (€31.17/kg)
  • 5+ cylinders: €340.00 per cylinder (save €170)
  • 15+ cylinders: €305.00 per cylinder (save €1,035)
