About R452A Refrigerant Gas
R452A was developed by Honeywell and Chemours as a lower GWP replacement for R404A in transport refrigeration, with some use in DX low- to medium-temperature refrigeration applications. It may also be referred to by the manufacturer trade names Solstice® 452A and Opteon™ XP44.
R452A is a 3-part blend consisting of R32, R125 and R1234yf, and has been classified by ASHRAE as A1 non-flammable. With a GWP of 1,945, R452A has less than half the GWP of R404A (3,922), making it a more environmentally friendly option.
Although the GWP of R452A is significantly lower than R404A, it is still regarded as a low- to medium-GWP refrigerant and is not considered a long-term replacement. R452A has been successfully used in trailer refrigeration and condensing units, and compressor manufacturer tests have demonstrated similar capacity, efficiency, and discharge temperature to R404A. As R452A is classified as A1 non-flammable, it can also be used to retrofit existing systems.

Can an R452A system simply be topped up, or is a complete refrigerant replacement necessary?
If the system has only lost a small amount of refrigerant, a qualified technician may assess whether topping up is possible. In the case of leaks, contamination, or a fully empty system, leak detection, evacuation, and a complete recharge are recommended.
